Fabio Da Silva is on standby to take a place in the Manchester United defence if Sir Alex Ferguson ends up not being able to call on John O’Shea and Jonny Evans to face Inter Milan.

Ferguson is hopeful O’Shea will recover from a heel injury in time to face Jose Mourinho’s men but Evans was unable to train at the San Siro on Monday evening after limping out of Saturday’s win over Blackburn with an ankle injury.
