    66′ 0 – 1 Goal David Ngog

Leeds manager Simon Grayson faces a selection dilemma over fit-again skipper Richard Naylor for the Carling Cup clash with Liverpool.

Naylor has not featured for Leeds this season following back surgery in the summer, but has proved his fitness in a reserve-team appearance and is ready to return in the third-round tie.

    Man Utd vs Tottenham Hotspur

John O’Shea is expecting a much tougher Carling Cup battle against Tottenham than many are predicting.

Manchester United will start as clear favourites for the first domestic cup final of the season on Sunday, with Tottenham still languishing near the Premier League’s drop zone and lacking a number of key men, including cup-tied captain Robbie Keane.

    90′ Carlos Tevez Goal 5 – 3
Carlos Tevez seized his opportunity to fire Manchester United to a 5-3 victory against Blackburn and reach the Carling Cup semi-finals.

With his Old Trafford future at stake, Tevez has no regard for the fixture backlog piling up for Sir Alex Ferguson.

And he hit three goals – after also claiming United’s opener, which seemed to have gone in off Aaron Mokoena – to remind Ferguson of his hunger and undoubted ability.

And a one-man mission to reach Wembley seems unlikely to be stopped now, although even with two Football League sides in the draw, the Red Devils might expect a sterner test in the last four.

With his team in such an awful state, Paul Ince might have welcomed a return to his old club, even if it was just as a release from Premier League worries.

    6′ Kevin McDonald Goal 1 – 0
    57′ Kevin McDonald Goal 2 – 0
Kevin McDonald steered Burnley into the semi-finals of a major competition for the first time in the 25 years with a superb brace in a 2-0 win against Arsenal at Turf Moor.

The Coca-Cola Championship team booked their place in the last four of the Carling Cup after showing a young Gunners side how to finish.

While McDonald rightly took the plaudits, the Lancashire club also had to thank goalkeeper Brian Jensen, who made a string of fine saves to keep his side in front.

Scottish midfielder McDonald scored either side of half-time and there was pandemonium around the old ground after a famous victory.

    63′ 4 – 2 Goal Sami Hyypia

Harry Redknapp’s magic touch continued with a 4-2 victory over Liverpool at White Hart Lane to secure Tottenham a place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.

As if to illustrate the manager’s impact since taking charge 18 days ago, it was two players on the fringes during Redknapp’s revolution who turned the tie with three goals in six minutes just before the break against Rafael Benitez’s reserves.

Roman Pavlyuchenko, who netted the late winner when Liverpool were beaten by Spurs in the Premier League, opened the scoring with a crisp finish before Fraizer Campbell added his first two for the club since his loan from Manchester United.

Damien Plessis and Sami Hyypia pulled goals back between Pavlyuchenko’s second, stirring memories of their second-half Istanbul comeback in the 2005 Champions League final – but Spurs held on to stay in the competition they won in February under Juande Ramos.MORE NEWS

Goalkeeper Brian Jensen was the Burnley hero as Chelsea crashed out of the Carling Cup on penalties at Stamford Bridge 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Jensen saved from captain Wayne Bridge and John Mikel Obi to put the Coca-Cola Championship side into the quarter-finals.

Returning striker Didier Drogba put Chelsea in front in the 27th minute but Burnley substitute Ade Akinbiyi equalised with 20 minutes remaining.MORE NEWS

    Man Utd 1 – 0 QPR
    76′ Carlos Tevez (pen)

Carlos Tevez’s late penalty saw off QPR 1-0 as Manchester United advanced to the Carling Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford.

Few would begrudge United their success but their Championship opponents would have taken the tie to extra-time had it not been for Peter Ramage’s rash tackle on England Under-19 striker Daniel Welbeck.

Tevez was not about to pass up the opportunity and confidently beat an otherwise faultless Radek Cerny to steer United through.MORE NEWS.

Arsenal’s youngsters sent Premier League rivals Wigan crashing out of the Carling Cup with another scintillating display after a 3-0 stroll at the Emirates Stadium.

The average age of Arsenal’s starting line-up was just 19 but they tore woeful Wigan apart with the same kind of exciting football that despatched Sheffield United 6-0 in the previous round.

Two goals from Jay Simpson capped his first start for the club and a third from Mexican star Carlos Vela put Arsene Wenger’s side into the fifth round in some style.
