Arsene Wenger insists his Arsenal players will not be daunted by the prospect of facing a partisan 60,000 crowd at Parkhead.

The Gunners travel to Scotland to face Celtic in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tomorrow evening hoping to get a decent result to take back to the Emirates Stadium.

  • £20 Million For Arshavin Price

Zenit have confirmed Arsenal are one of the clubs to have declared their interest and suggested a deal in the region of £20 million was in the pipeline. But the player’s representative, Dennis Lachter, claims the former Russian champions are hoping to inflate the price by using the media and at the moment there have been no offers.

The Russia international stated last month he would never play for Zenit again and will soon be able to buy out his own contract under FIFA rules. That means Zenit are playing a dangerous game as if they do not sell him during the current transfer window as they could be left with virtually nothing.

Tottenham Hotspur were very interested in the summer but refused to pay up to £20 million for a player who shone at Euro 2008. Now, with that tournament a dim and distant memory, it appears unlikely Zenit will be able to get anything like that figure, with £10 million more realistic.

  • Arsene Wenger target a player with special class instead

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he has put and end to his pursuit of Udinese midfielder Gokhan Inler and will target a player with “special class” instead.

Asked if he was interested in signing the talented 24-year-old midfielder as a replacement for Mathieu Flamini, who joined AC Milan in the summer, Wenger said: “Yes, in the summer. But not any more.”

The Arsenal boss’ comments has lead to much speculation in the UK press that he was alluding to a £20 million move for Russian star Andrei Arshavin.

Arshavin has already represented Zenit St Petersburg in this season’s Champions League and Wenger is reported to be an admirer of the want-away 27-year-old.

The arrival of the Russian forward would provide a much needed morale boost to Wenger’s young squad following the long-term loss of injured skipper Cesc Fabregas.
