Liverpool went back to the top of the Premier League with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Bolton at Anfield.

Chelsea’s victory earlier in the day put the London side in pole position until Robbie Keane’s double and a goal from Albert Riera ensured the Reds went back to the head of the pack.

The win meant Liverpool have completed all of 2008 unbeaten at home in the league.

Missing Alvaro Arbeloa with a hamstring injury, manager Rafael Benitez re-jigged his back line, moving Jamie Carragher to right-back with Sami Hyypia slotting into the centre of defence.

Live Premiership action this Sunday is vintage stuff as league leaders Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium to clash against Arsenal in a game that could very well tests their title credentials this season.

Arsenal look to have slipped out of the title race at this stage after their highly unconvincing 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough last week. The Gunners had taken the lead courtesy Emmanuel Adebayor, but former Arsenal man Jeremie Aliadiere returned to haunt his old club with an equalizer that ensured the clubs shared the points.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insisted after the game that the race was still on, but even he must be concerned after his side slipped out of the top four once again. The return of Eduardo from the horrific leg injury sustained last season is a heartening development, but Arsenal have let more than a few games slip out of their grasp this season.

Liverpool struggled to their third successive home league draw as Premier League new boys Hull produced another accomplished away performance for a 2-2 draw.

Hull had already won at Arsenal and Spurs and scored three in defeat at Manchester United.

And if not for Steven Gerrard they would have ended Liverpool’s season-long unbeaten home record.

Hull were two ahead through Paul McShane and a Jamie Carragher own goal before Gerrard scored twice in eight minutes, taking his tally for the season to 11.

Gerrard was among the players returning after being rested from the Champions League win over Eindhoven in midweek, along with Jose Reina, Dirk Kuyt and Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool had to come from behind against PSV Eindhoven to clinch top place in Group D, but in the end this Champions League victory was achieved at a canter at the Philips Stadion.

Boss Rafael Benitez rested Steven Gerrard and sent out a much-changed side against the Dutch champions and found themselves behind when Danko Lazovic struck after 36 minutes.

Dutchman Ryan Babel found an equaliser just before the break and from then on there was only ever going to be one winner. Albert Riera belted home a 30-yarder for the second before French youngster David Ngog added a third to ensure the night ended comfortably for the Reds.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will be looking for an improved performance from his side this Saturday when they take on struggling Blackburn Rovers in their next Premiership clash.

Liverpool dropped two vital points last weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to West Ham United. With title rivals Chelsea losing out against Arsenal on Sunday, it was a great chance for Liverpool to go three points clear at the top of the league table but the Reds failed to create any real chances as West Ham hung on to claim a point from the match.

Liverpool again wasted a chance to take a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League as brave West Ham forced a goalless draw at Anfield.

It is 45 years since they have won at this stadium, so this first point in nine years at Liverpool was a fine achievement.

West Ham have never been known for their defensive reliability at Liverpool, but they were magnificent as they stretched an unbeaten run to three games.

At the back goalkeeper Robert Green, England defender Matthew Upson and Welshman James Collins stood defiant.
